Shine’s Cricket Development Squads are a progressive high quality cricket coaching programme that runs throughout the calendar year using both indoor and outdoor facilities. The Development Squad provides an exciting opportunity for children of all abilities to develop their cricket skills and knowledge in a supportive and inclusive environment with qualified experienced coaches.

Shine’s Cricket Development Squad Summer season runs from May to July with sessions taking place on Saturday mornings.  If the weather is unsuitable then the squad will relocated to Shine Community Sports Hall, Brecon Road, BS9 4DT ensuring the sessions will ALWAYS take place.

The 12 week coaching programme will involve a combination of match situations, skills drills and cricket themed exercises with an emphasis on healthy fun. Children who enjoy being part of Shine will have an opportunity to move up through the development age groups in the seasons ahead.

The various squads divide into three distinct age and ability groups –

Shine Cubs – U6’s, U7’s (Year 1 & Year 2)

Shine Cubs is aimed at boys and girls who would like to discover more about this great team sport during ‘soft ball’ sessions that will involve heaps of cricket related fun and games.

Shine Lions – U8’s, U9’s (Year 3 & Year 4)

As a progression, those Under 8’s and Under 9’s children who wish to learn more about our No1 summer sport will benefit from Shine Lions sessions that include skills, drills and matches using a rubber ‘windball’.

Shine Hardball (Years 5 upwards)

The final stage in the players development towards conventional junior club cricket is the opportunity join the Shine Hardball group which especially suits those who feel they are ready to take the challenge of stepping up to full hardball cricket and the use of associated equipment such as pads, gloves and helmets.
